Seafront sailors want organisers of beach events such as Fatboy Slim's planned summer concert to consult them before inviting thousands to the area.
Members of Brighton Sailing Club say they are not killjoys who want to put a stop to events but they fear the balance is tipping in favour of drinking and club entertainment instead of water sports.
Tom Griffiths, the sailing secretary for the club, based at Kings Road Arches in Brighton, said: "We are not against the events in principle. What we are in favour of is the seafront being used reasonably for a variety of things."
Mr Griffiths said the seafront had become a large bar.
Last summer more than 35,000 people partied there when the top DJ held a free concert.
Other beach events throughout the summer also attracted thousands.
Mr Griffiths said club members co-operated with events on the beach and even allowed film crews to use the club's electricity supply.
