Salt Lake 2002 is the official video game of the Olympic Winter Games, which begin on Friday.

The game, available on PC CD-Rom and PlayStation 2, combines real-life environments, single and multi-player modes, incredible graphics and a TV-style presentation of six events to provide a realistic challenge to videogamers.

Players can carve their way down the slopes in the men's snowboard parallel giant slalom, speed down the piste in the men's Alpine skiing downhill or test their flair and ability in the womens' Alpine skiing slalom.

If that's not enough, you can show off your technique in the women's freestyle skiing aerials and the men's ski jumping K120 individual or create the perfect harmony needed for the two-man bobsleigh.

There are four modes of play: Olympic, tournament, classic and freeform, which encompass a variety of single and multi-player options.

The game makes use of the motion-capture technology and real-time physics for realistic character movement. The environments are incredibly detailed, exact down to one metre, having used satellite imaging technology.

The commentary is provided by the BBC's team of Stuart Storey and Graham Bell.

The game was developed by Attention To Detail, who also developed the Bafta award-winning Sydney 2000, a game based on the 2000 Olympic Games.
