Eastbourne launched a triple celebration as Paul Newell's try hat-trick put them on course for promotion.

Newell starred in a 32-8 win at rivals Bognor which sets Eastbourne up to take second place in London Four South East.

The triple celebration was completed by events at Murrayfield plus news that rivals Folkestone had lost to Betteshanger.

The only time they lost out was when they stopped off at a casino in Hove on the way back home.

Eastbourne's Graham Shiret said: "That was probably our best league performance of the season. Our coach Andre Groenen is delighted with the rugby we have been playing since the turn of the year."

Eastbourne were on course for victory after two Newell strikes put them 12-3 up having played into the wind in the second half.

Danny Craven and Jamie Bremer also scored with Andy Moore kicking two conversions and a penalty.

Karl Flynn impressed at No. 8 for the hosts and scored his side's try, with Stuart Pearce adding a penalty.

Flynn said: "The best side won. They did their homework on us."
