Worthing Thunder clinched a new signing but were left scratching their heads over two that got away.

Predrag Crneta was due to make his debut coming off the bench in tonight's tough-looking home tussle with leaders Teesside (8pm).

Crneta is a political refugee from Bosnia who is currently studying at the University of London.

He has played alongside Dwayne Martin at Ware and also had spells in Portugal and Austria.

Thunder hope the arrival of the 31-year-old 6ft 5ins guard will give them a timely boost after a run of five straight defeats.

But assistant coach Neil McElduff was puzzled to see Bears clinch the signature of Rodger Farrington this week.

McElduff said: "Last year I signed two players from Anguilla at the start of the season.

"It was cleared by the EBBA but when they got here, immigration would not allow them into the country.

"They were both from British dependent territories in the Caribbean. I'm pleased for Nick that he got his man but it was frustrating for me."

McElduff admits the current overseas players must click if Thunder are to get their season back on track.

Dual national Martin has averaged seven points and five rebounds in the last three matches, during which time Sean Hampton has hit two of 20 from three-point range and six of 13 from the line.

McElduff said: "That's not good enough to win games.

"If your three-point shot is not falling, step inside and try a shot you know you can make.

"With performances like that and with Paul Mundy-Castle playing on one leg, it's going to make life very hard.

"Paul has not trained since the Solent game and I wasn't expecting him to come to Plymouth last Saturday. He needs a rest."

Mundy-Castle travelled by train to Plymouth and led his side's scoring with 25 points.
