The appalling weather, seemingly a tradition on this night, couldn't keep a full house away from the Boundstone Community College's Big Band Night at the Worthing Pavilion last Friday.
More than 700 people braved the elements again for this annual event (thank you, Seeboard) and it is certainly one of the highlights of the year.
The evening was filled with superb sounds and thoroughly enjoyable performing arts. Mr Kerney and the staff, through their own commitment and enthusiasm, are able to bring out the very best in these students year after year - remarkable when you consider they have to lose senior band members each year and that some students have only been at the college for mere months.
This evening was packed with variety and fun - the wonderful big band sound of the full complement (nearly 80 students), the individual solos and duets (vocal and instrumental) and the polish of the stage band energetically led by Mr Casterton. The hours flew by.
It was good to see the Mayor of Worthing attend with a good number of West Sussex county councillors.
I am sure the college appreciates their support. We all had a fantastic time - thank you, Boundstone and everyone involved in making this happen.
If you haven't had the opportunity to see this band then, whatever you do, pencil in next January (and buy a good umbrella).
-John Lamb, Lancing
