Burgess Hill boss Gary Croydon hopes influential defender Des Guile could be fit for their FA Vase clash with Dorking in a fortnight's time.

Guile picked up a knock in Hillians' midweek win over Littlehampton in December and has not played since.

Croydon said: "Des has become a major part of our defence and he is making a steady recovery. He is about 50-50 for the Vase on January 19."

There will be no time for Guile to fit in a reserve game before the last 32 tie but he is part of the party going to Spain for a mid-season break.

Croydon and his assistant Danny Bloor have taken over the running of the under-18 side at Leylands Park following the departure of manager Mick Cooper due to work commitments.

Hassocks are top of the national Ladbrokes Non-League Fairplay Trophy.

The Non-League paper carries the competition and Dave John's Robins were top of the pile in December from the 180 clubs eligible with six cautions against their games played-points tally.

John said: "It makes a nice change for us to be top of a table. We don't get much glory at Hassocks."

John Suter's Horsham YMCA are third in the table and Pagham fourth with Hellenic League Brackley Town in second place.

Robins striker Luke Flomo scored a hat-trick in their reserves against Three Bridges and John rates him a game away from a return for the first team.

Peacehaven manager Nigel Nash is preparing to hand debuts to two new players. Owen Hill is poised for his first start since signing from Wick, and the former Burgess Hill central defender Chris Ridley is back in the County League after taking three years out.

Nash said his New Year's resolution was to "win something."

Nash also welcomes back Ashley Jones after two months out with a broken collarbone. Jones came on as subsitute against Whitehawk last weekend.

Whitehawk manager Ian Chapman has put in a seven day approach for his midfield playing cousin Lee Chapman at Newhaven.

Arundel's Adam Palmer only had his stitches out on New Year's Eve following keyhole surgery on an injured knee but the centre-half was due to play for the reserves today.
