Albert White believes his exploits with the Brighton Bears can earn a dream chance with the NBA.

White lines up with his Bears teammates aiming to shoot down southern conference Thames Valley Tigers on Sunday from 2.30pm before a near-capacity crowd at the Brighton Centre and the Meridian television cameras.

Tigers have already had a taste of what to expect from the 24-year-old from Michigan, who fired 40 points in their own Bracknell gym in October.

The warning from White is that the best is yet to come.

He said: "This will be the third time I've played against them. I'm not trying to score 40 on them again.

"If it happens it happens, but the main thing is we play good defence and get a victory.

"I don't think I've had a complete game. Even though I had 40 I didn't think I shot the ball that well.

"There's always room for improvement, no matter how good you get."

Not that Bears are a one-man show. Sterling Davis will pick up his BBL player-of-the-month award for November before tip-off, Randy Duck and Michael Brown will be key men in the battle of the guards and Wilbur Johnson will be fired up after a fairly subdued weekend last time round.

Benchmen Mark Jackson and Errol Seaman will also have key roles in what White insists will be a team effort.

But he knows full well that news of another spectacular individual display will filter back across the Atlantic.

He said: "My ambition is to play in the NBA and what I do in England has a lot of bearing on that.

"A lot of guys sit out a whole year not playing basketball, waiting for their chance at the NBA.

"I think I need to play as much as possible. My agent does all the work and he's doing a good job letting guys know I am still active.

"I'm pretty sure news gets back, maybe on the internet."

He added: "The reception from my team mates and everybody here has made it really easy to settle in. I'm enjoying it. There are a lot of guys on the team who can score points. We play tough defence and pretty much go from there.

"We've just got to keep coming to practice and pushing each other. As long as we concentrate on what we need to do and not worry about other people we will be okay."

Coach Nick Nurse believes White can make it into the big league, providing he is prepared to work hard. He rates his latest signing the best player in the BBL and has tipped him to hit 50 points some time this season.

White laughed: "Maybe I'll get higher than 50, we'll see. I am definitely going to stay aggressive offensively.

"Everybody knows I can score and I just try and concentrate on things people don't know me for like playing some hard defence."

Bears' rearguard will be given a stern test by the scoring power of Eric Burks and Barry Bowman from the perimeter.

Guard Brown is relishing that tussle. He said: "They will come after us because we beat them last time at their place but, if we do what we have been doing in the past five games, we should have no problem."

It promises to be a red letter day for the Bears. The match is being screened live on Meridian, the first league game to receive such treatment from terrestrial television sinnce the BBL's formation in 1987.

It will be followed by a showcase wheelchair international between England and Italy, to be shown on BBC's Grandstand later this month.

Worthing Thunder's push for the NBL Conference title faces its toughest test to date when they go to Teesside Mohawks on Sunday (4pm).
