Am I unique in believing the real joy of Christmas has disappeared? It has become out of hand and its real significance is the greed of shops.
Do we really want to see the first sign of Christmas emerging in September? I saw Christmas cards in a DIY shop as early as this.
By the beginning of December, Christmas goods have lingered in the shops for nearly three months. By the time December 25 arrives, they have become boring.
Families buy their Christmas trees a few weeks or days before Christmas, yet shops display tree decorations in October. The masses of tinsel become dusty and tangled, lying in bits over the shop shelves. Christmas tree bells and ornaments become broken from so much handling.
When I was a child, the first Christmas item wouldn't be in the shops until November. What joy waiting for November to arrive, knowing Christmas was around the corner.
It is no wonder GPs report depression in adults is at its highest between October and January. Let's get it straight: Christmas is on December 25.
