Roy Whiting told a fellow prison inmate he visited the spot where Sarah was buried and described how he stood over her body.

But he never admitted her murder.

The convicted ex-prison officer, who was in a cell next to Whiting in the segregation unit at Highdown Prison in Surrey, said the killer claimed he was told by a friend where the body had been dumped.

Whiting claimed he panicked when he saw the body and didn't call police for fear of arrest.

In an interview with the BBC, the unnamed inmate said he spoke with Whiting several times through the window of his cell.

He said Whiting "couldn't wait" for his day in court, claiming he would "slaughter the police".

Whiting also told him he did not care about Sarah's parents and showed them "no compassion, no remorse".

In the following weeks, Whiting said he was going to write a book, Convicted By Sussex Police, and had been offered money for it.

He was going to buy a boat and sail the world.

He constantly claimed he was going to "get away with it".
