A woman has signed a contract saying she'll stop being abusive to neighbours, swearing and playing loud music.

She could be thrown out of her home if she breaches its terms.

The 18-year-old from Burgess Hill, who has not been named, is the first person in Mid Sussex to voluntarily sign the Acceptable Behaviour Contract (ABC) devised by the New Downland Housing Association.

She had repeatedly abused neighbours with bad language and played her music.

She also kept dogs in her garden which barked at all hours of the day.

She agreed to sign the contract after she was approached by housing officers and the police following a culmination of complaints.

The initiative is a result of a liaison between the housing association and Sussex Police and maps out a plan of action for her to follow.

Housing tenants sign behaviour contracts voluntarily but if they do not follow it then it could lead to serious consequences, such as an antisocial behaviour order being placed on them in court or eviction from their homes.
