Police searched a man's home and found indecent pictures of children under his bed, a court heard.
Peter Mills, who has no previous convictions, had downloaded the photographs from the internet.
Mills, 45, of Gladstone Road, Portslade, admitted having indecent photographs of children and making indecent photographs of children when he appeared before Brighton magistrates.
Lisa Ramsarran, prosecuting, told the court that police went to Mills' home in May with a search warrant after receiving information about him.
The pictures appeared to be of females under 16. Other pictures were found on floppy discs.
Mills told officers he believed the girls in the pictures were over the age of 16. But, Ms Ramsarran said, the prosecution view was that they were not.
Rachel Lancaster, defending, said there was no suggestion Mills was distributing the pictures.
The case was adjourned until January 9 for sentence. Mills was remanded on bail.
