I would like to comment on the article about the wait for breast cancer tests (The Argus, December 8).

I recently found a lump and, upon seeing my GP, was told, as the article stated, I would be seen at the hospital within two weeks.

However, when I phoned the hospital to check, I was told I would not get an appointment for six weeks because I am under 30.

Therefore the comment made by Trust Chief Executive Stuart Welling that all women now referred are seen within 14 days and that the service has improved to 100 per cent does not match my own experience.

Because of the worry of waiting for six weeks over the Christmas period, my husband and I decided we had no alternative but to pay privately, although we can ill afford it.

Perhaps someone could explain why the authority gives out a set of figures that is not a true reflection of the time it really takes to get an appointment.
