A Sussex primary school's reward for winning a six-a-side tournament is a date on a Premiership ground.

Silverdale, of Hastings, will play in the South East under-11s final at Portman Road, Ipswich, in February after winning the Sussex title at St Philip's School, Uckfield.

Coach Gerry Whitmore said: "It will be a once in a lifetime's experience for them to go to a Premiership ground. We'll take up a coachload of supporters."

Silverdale prevented Wallands (Lewes) completing a hat-trick by pipping them 4-2 on penalties in the final after drawing 1-1 following extra-time.

Goalkeeper Joshua Pelling saved two penalties, while Terry Burchett, Steve Cook, Matthew Scott and Joe Tutt scored from the spot. Tutt netted in normal time before Wallands equalised with seconds left.

Whitmore said: "We have some promising youngsters playing for us. Steve, our captain, and Joshua train with Albion and midfielder Matthew Scott is on trial at Charlton, but we are proud of all the boys.

"The team has only lost once in two years but we knew of Wallands. They had a particularly dangerous player called Stephen Brinkhurst who also trains with Albion. We paid close attention to him."

Skipper Cook said: "It's brilliant. Wallands were our most difficult opponents and Stephen was a very good player for them. But we wanted it more."

Silverdale conceded just two goals on their way to the final and the goals were spread amongst Scott, Burchett, Scott Sellens, Tutt (all two), with Cook finding the net once.

The first round was played in three sections with Silverdale finishing top of Group A, beating Hawkes Farm (Hailsham) 4-0 and Southwater Junior (Horsham) 1-0.

Wallands progressed in Group B with a 1-0 victory over West Hove Junior (Brighton) and a 2-0 win against Flora McDonald (Littlehampton).

Group C was topped by St Thomas A Becket (Eastbourne) who beat Pound Hill (Crawley) 1-0 and drew 0-0 with Lindfield (Mid Sussex).

In the second round, Silverdale reached the final with a 1-1 draw against West Hove and a 2-1 win over St Thomas A Becket (Eastbourne).

Wallands progressed with victories over Hawkes Farm (2-1) and Lindfield (2-0).

Silverdale squad: Joshua Pelling, Matthew Scott, Steve Cook, Joseph Tutt, Ashley O'Prey, Jake O'Reilly, Scott Sellens, Terry Burchett.

Schools taking part: West Hove Junior (Brighton), Pound Hill Middle School (Crawley), St Thomas A Becket (Eastbourne), Hawkes Farm (Hailsham), Silverdale (Hastings), Southwater Junior (Horsham), Wallands (Lewes), Flora McDonald Junior (Littlehampton) and Lindfield Primary (Haywards Heath).

SUSSEX Schools under-16s lost 2-1 against Kent at Dartford with Chris Breach scoring their consolation goal with a penalty.

Manager Bob White said: "It was disappointing. Despite dominating most of the game, we conceded both goals from defensive mistakes and spent most of the match playing catch-up football."

Next fixtures are, December 28: Middlesex (away). January 3: Inner London (home). January 16: Surrey (home). February 6: Buckinghamshire (home).

Albion have gone top of the National Disability League division one after a 9-4 victory at Colchester. Michael Blake and John Ishola hit hat-tricks for the team, which has an average age of 16. James Horton, Ben Wheeler and Mark Reeves also scored.

Albion entertain Peterborough in the quarter-finals of the FA Disability Cup in February after defeating Fulham 4-1.

Horton and Mike Ishola and Horton will attend England trials next February.
