Residents were celebrating today after winning their battle against an Eastbourne nursery's expansion plans.
Borough planners last night threw out an application by Meadows Nursery to cater for 18 more children, extend opening hours and create off-street parking.
Councillors agreed the planned expansion of the nursery in Brand Road, Hampden Park, was too big for a quiet residential area.
Residents feared noise and increased traffic and a 49-signature petition and 11 letters of objection were sent to the council.
Brand Road resident Maureen Hamilton said: "We are not anti-children or anti-nursery.
"We just felt an expansion of this size would not be in keeping with the area."
Planning chairman Patrick Bowker said: "We felt it was too big an expansion for a residential area."
