Haywards Heath can push for a top four finish after two tries from Henry Goodburn clinched a thrilling win over London Nigerians.

The Heath skipper twice won the race to loose balls as Heath recovered from a nightmare start to beat their title-chasing visitors 18-10.

Victory at Cheshunt a week on Saturday will send Heath into Christmas with a 50 per cent record in London One and Goodburn would settle for that.

He said: "We have got some key games coming up at home after Christmas and if we win them we can be pushing for a top four place.

"I was really pleased on Saturday. We had a shocking start but the guys made up for it, especially the pack. Our lineout was superb again ad we pushed them off their own ball at scrums."

Heath conceded a converted try after just 15 seconds when they failed to protect possession won by Dave Atkin from kick-off.

Stuart Charnely's penalty kept them in touch at 10-3 at the break and astute kicking by Jon Graham at outside half ensured they won the tactical battle in the second half.

Goodburn scored a kick and chase try after the visiting outside half had lost the ball under pressure.

Graham's clever crossfield kick then set the skipper in to score again. Charnely converted and added a penalty.

Goodburn added: "We knew if we gave them any space in the backs or the back row they would find gaps and run at us but we closed them down very quickly.

"We were unlucky not to get a point at Havant in the previous game. Now it's a matter of maintaining that kind of momentum."
