Terry Higgs was forced to give his Crawley side a stern lecture as South Saxons dumped them out of the Sussex Cup on Sunday.

Crawley were without four first team regulars but Higgs was not keen to use that as excuse after they suffered a 2-0 first round defeat against the Sussex Open premier division outfit who had skipper Jeremy Bunday and Danny Burnett on target.

Higgs said: "Saxons were first to everything all over the pitch and all credit to them. We wish them well in the next round."

Horsham brushed aside their lower division opposition Littlehampton 13-1 with the goals flowing from Richard Charlesworth (4), Richard Blaksley (2), Richard Lowe (2), Mark Ansell (2), Paul Barlow (2) and Ian Brown.

Brighton eased to a 5-2 win over Mid Sussex thanks to goals from Mohamed Samak, Mohamed Nagey, Dan Hacking, Dave Delea and Simon Acott, with his first for the club. Andy Green was on target with both Mids' goals.

Billypickles of Sussex Open division one beat Southwick from the Premier 4-3 on penalty flicks after a 0-0 draw and golden goal period could not separate the two sides. Billypickles' scorers were Neil Brenson, Richard Stock, Gareth James and Carl Haslam.

Penguins beat Eastbourne 3-2 as Dave Matthews, Stephan Wilkinson and Tim Warren struck for the hosts as Ben Coope and Sam Rham replied.

Crowborough had a walkover against Sussex Police, who failed to raise a side, as did Worthing who were draw to play Middleton and Bognor.

CHICHESTER bounced back to winning ways in the South League Premier with a 3-2 win at Old Georgians.

Chichester captain Neil Pendle said: "We played quite well and deserved to win the game. We are back on track."

CROWBOROUGH surrendered a 2-0 lead against Sutton Valence and then had to fight back from 3-2 down and 4-3 down before finally grabbing a point in division one.

Borough's goals came from Matt Crompton, Liam Brightmore, Darren Pullman and Danny Smith while their cause was not helped as their own players were guilty of arguing amongst themselves.

Soft goals cost Eastbourne dearly as they slipped to a 6-2 defeat against Old Bordenians despite Dave Morgan's brace.

Middleton and Bognor have withdrawn from the league and their match at Sevenoaks was scratched.
