Readers of an article in The Argus (October 30) may have been misled as to my views on internet advertising by prostitutes.

I did say I understood the need for prostitution, had never condemned the profession and thought the new web site would, alongside recently-introduced legislation, help to reduce the incidence of telephone-box carding, which causes considerable offence to the general public and, particularly, families with young children.

However, I also said - but this was omitted - that it was important the web site was properly protected from unexpected use by children and I was sure the organisers would ensure it had access by adults only.
