Bonfire parade organisers are praying for good weather after the event was washed out last year.

Littlehampton Bonfire Society lost thousands of pounds in charity collections but it is hoping the town will be packed on Saturday, October 27, for a night of fireworks.

Residents and spectators are being urged not to park along the procession routes, which are subject to road closure orders.

John Burchfield, the chief parade marshal, said: "Police will be enforcing the no-Parking regulations and any vehicles illegally parked may be towed away.

"Parking has been a particular problem in South Terrace in recent years and police will be paying particular attention to this area.

"We hope residents will bear with us for this one evening of the year."

The roads affected are: Banjo Road 9am to 11pm; Maltravers Road 4pm to 11pm; Fitzalan Road, (south from the Church Street junction) 5pm to 11pm; Granville Road, Selbourne Road, St Winifrides Road, Church Street, Manor Parade, East Street (south of Gratwick Arms corner), Beach Road (north of war memorial roundabout), St Catherine's Road, South Terrace, Irvine Road (junction with St Catherine's Road to junction with Fitzalan Road) 6.30pm to 10.30pm; Sea Road (from junction of South Terrace/Norfolk Road to junction of Sea Road/Hendon Avenue) 8.30pm to 9.30pm; East Street (from Gratwick Arms corner to Barclays Bank corner) 8am to 10pm.

Mr Burchfield urged spectators not to set off fireworks in the street or pick up discarded torches.
