Hastings Town returned to winning ways last night with a 3-0 victory over Tonbridge Angels at the Pilot Field.

The win keeps Town top of the Dr Martens eastern division and was the perfect response for George Wakeling's side after their first defeat of the season in their last home game again Newport (IOW).

The Arrows are still unbeaten in the League and they took the lead in the 13th minute when Lee McRobert capitalised on a Tonbridge defensive error to set up Paul Jones who chipped in his sixth goal of the season.

Fullback Steve Yates could have doubled his side's advantage in the 29th minute when Duncan McArthur's long ball found him down the right but he shot wide.

The visitors Mohammed Takalogabhashi felt he should have had a penalty in the 40th minute when he went down and moments later the Tonbridge number ten fired straight at Dave King.

After the break Danny Simmonds drilled a shot into the side netting and Stuart Myall blasted over.

In the 65th minute Tonbridge almost equalised. Substitute Graham Robertson had only been on the pitch a matter of seconds when his right foot cross was sliced onto his own bar by Stuart Playford.

But within minutes Town's skipper Tony Burt made it 2-0 as he deflected in McArthur's shot from the edge of the box.

And the home team sealed their victory when Ian Gibbs brought down Jones and was sent off. While the visitors protested, Simmonds kept his cool and sent Tonbridge's 16-year-old rookie keeper the wrong way from the spot.

A brace from Dave Adams gave Eastbourne Borough a 2-0 win at Bashley.

A fast and furious first half saw Borough dominate and they could have had more than the one goal advantage at half time.

Paul Stevens supplied a couple of great crosses but no one was on the end to finish the moves off.

Adams also supplied a coupleof great crosses before he finally gave Borough a deserved lead on 22 minutes.

John Westcott and Daren Pearce worked a short corner before the former Brighton man whipped in the cross and Adams' deft header left the home keeper with no chance.

Bashley conceded again in the 78th minute when Adams fired home from 12 yards.

Tony Reid went close three times for St Leonard's against Chatham Town but they ended up 1-0 losers.

Chatham grabbed victory with seven minutes left when Glen Cooke pounced at the edge of the box after a cross was only partially cleared.
