A goal six minutes from time gave Crawley a 2-1 victory and three fortunate points against struggling Newport (Isle of Wight).

The home side started brightly and Crawley keeper Andy Little did well to save from Kevin Gillett in the fifth minute. The breakthrough came in the 30th minute.

A great run and cross down the right by Warren Bagnall was converted at the near post by Steve Restarick.

Little then came to the rescue again just before half time with a full length dive to save a 20-yard effort from Adam Holbrook.

Within two minutes of the start of the second half Newport scored their first goal at St George's Park for 319 minutes.

Substitute Steve Moss won the ball and fed Shane Jones on the left and his cross was headed home at the far post by leading scorer Danny Gibbons.

The home side had the majority of possession and looked as though they would hang on for a draw until the 84th minute.

A mistake by Ian Rew let in Steve Sargent and his cross was buried by Restarick for his and Crawley's second.
