A man wielding a knife terrorised people as they waited in a traffic queue.
Witnesses said he tried to assault people sitting in their cars at traffic lights near The Windmill pub in Old Shoreham Road, Southwick.
Police wearing stab-proof vests were sent to the scene after a number of emergency calls were made. Nobody was hurt.
The suspect, described as thin and wearing a black fleece jacket, drove off in a white car before officers arrived at the scene just after 8pm yesterday.
