Matt Smart scored an 87th-minute goal to earn Eastbourne Borough a 2-2 draw against Corby Town in the Dr Martens eastern division.

The vital strike came four minutes after Corby substitute David Glass had hit what seemed to be a certain winner for the visitors.

It was a thrilling finale to a game that Garry Wilson's men should have had sewn up much earlier.

But they found it hard to penetrate a packed Corby defence after the visitors had been reduced to ten men in the 58th minute.

Mark Wood received his marching orders following a foul on Matt Allen who was clean through on goal.

Borough had got off to a nightmare start when leading visiting scorer Ashley Warner put Corby ahead from the penalty spot in the 11th minute.

Ben Austin had headed clear following a corner, but was then penalised immediately afterwards for retaliation in an off the ball incident involving Richard Preston.

Austin was booked before Warner sent keeper Dean Lightwood the wrong way from the spot.

Seven minutes later, Allen banged in the equaliser from close range after a fine run and cross from John Westcott.

Borough made all the running in the second half even before the dismissal of Wood.

But they suffered a huge blow when Matt Crabb was helped off with an ankle injury resulting from a foul by Ossie Mintus.

Manager Garry Wilson said: "I have not got too many complaints. I thought we played all right and created chances although it is not easy when a team gets so many men behind the ball.

"I am a great believer in going all out to win, particularly at home. We took a gamble but left ourselves open at the back."

Defensive errors proved costly as St Leonards were hammered 5-2 by Erith and Belverdere.

They fell behind to a headed goal from Stuart Abbott after just two minutes.

Abbott added a fortunate second on 15 minutes as he over-hit a far post cross which sailed over John Odlum into the top corner of the net.

Nine minutes later Saints were three down when Steve White scored with the defence looking for an offside decision.

Three minutes later Abbott completed his hat-trick with a well-placed shot after he was allowed to make a solo run down the left flank.

The visitors hit back immediately when Des Boateng spotted Dere's keeper Dean Lee off his line and chipped him from outside the box.

On 70 minutes, Saints were caught pushing forward and Richard Cercessi added the fifth goal for the home side.

Saints were stung into action again and straight from the re-start, Carleton Chatelier scored.
