Fans of the epic science fiction saga Dune will love this PC game, Emperor: Battle for Dune, from Westwood.

The setting is a war for control of the planet, Arrakis, also known as Dune.

You must choose one of three houses in a battle for the planet's precious spice: The noble Atreides, evil Harkonnen or the treacherous Ordos.

I chose Ordos because its vehicles were the most effective against enemies. A great choice of tanks and soldiers, each with its own strengths and weaknesses.

The best thing about this game is the way it looks. A move to 3-D means the graphics really add to the enjoyment. The movement of the troops is very realistic, especially the way they handle their weapons.

Tanks rolling across or hovering over the battlefield create an awesome sight. The spectacular way they shoot and explode is a big step forward.

Killing enemy troops is gruesomely-pleasing, although distinguishing them from your own men can be difficult.

Then there are the infamous gigantic sandworms. When one of these subterranean monsters suddenly appears to devour your troops, you become nervous of taking them across the sand again.
