To put the proposed stadium on the outskirts of Brighton and Hove is surely in no one's interest.
If it is to be a community stadium, it should be in the heart of the community, where sports men and women of all ages can spend an hour or two training after work or school.
Access from north, east and west would be easy if the stadium were in the city centre.
The Brighton station site is quite large enough and there would be room too for housing, shops and a hotel.
Just imagine a 25,000-capacity stadium, its required parking plus floodlighting and noise on the open South Downs.
Residents of Falmer and Woodingdean would be seriously affected. Traffic misery would extend to Rottingdean. Contemplate the congestion on the A27 and the Falmer-Rottingdean road.
The Government has stated very clearly that developments on Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty will not be allowed unless they are in the national interest and there is no other site. Falmer would fail on both counts.
Why not save time and money by looking for an alternative now?
