The recent series of letters from Gordon Dean on supporting players in films has been truly fascinating.
Small-part players (butlers, chauffeurs, etc) are the backbone of some great films, their names remaining largely anonymous to the viewing public, "always the best man, never the groom".
During my time of playing bit-parts, the back of my head and other parts of my anatomy were seen far more frequently than my face.
I was unrecognisable as an abattoir worker in a BBC psychological thriller and you got nothing but a side view of me in Jack Warner's Jigsaw, a "body in the trunk" thriller shot in and around Brighton.
My back and profile also featured in many ads during the early Sixties. I must have spent hours checking the mirror to be sure the back of my head was looking its best.
