A man had to have surgery after he was slashed across the stomach.
It happened on the corner of Essex Road and Buckingham Road, Hastings, at 8.30pm on Friday.
Police believe the victim may have been slashed with a large kitchen knife or a machete. They do not know the motive for the attack.
The 19-year-old man was taken to the Conquest Hospital, Hastings, where his condition is described as stable.
