I saw Councillor Bodfish on television on June 10. He did not announce new railway lines with improved train services. He did not say new bus services were available. Instead, he was talking about the new, increased parking fines and extra traffic wardens. He said that, from now on, the parking regulations would really be enforced.

The message he gave me was clear and unambiguous: Do not come to Brighton and Hove. We do not want visitors. We do not want inward investment.

Brighton and Hove has said it is at war with people who have money and mobility and choose to include a car in their lives. This is strange because Brighton and Hove is one of the poorest cities in the country. But perhaps that is why it is so poor.
