Wayne Walter took 40 carp on method feeder for 98lb 13oz as Isfield took on Banstead at Wilderness Lake.

Walter's next two club colleagues were Steve Hughes with 66lb 10oz and Alan Phillips with 58lb 14oz as wet conditions graced most of the six-hour match at East Grinstead. Top for Banstead was Keith Bygrave with 65lb 14oz.

Most anglers were hitting the carp up to 3lb with Isfield's 11 members recording 540lb and opponents Banstead 167lb.

Compared to that, Isfield's midweek match at Cypress Wood (Buxted) had been a comparatively tame affair although winner Bob Sutherland did have 39lb 10oz of carp, rudd and tench on pole and maggot. The runner-up Sean Pollock had 15lb 12oz.

Carp taken on a pole using a variety of baits including sweetcorn, luncheon meat, and worm, gave Derek White a £145 payout with the top bag of 36lb 12oz in the Billingshurst Open fished by 24 at Malthouse lakes. Derek's best two fish were a brace of double figure carp.

Mike Lunn of Grayshott Tackle with four carp on method feeder for a 21lb total won £85 and third was White's Billingshurst colleague Gerald Harbinson with 20lb 15oz and £65. Then came Dudley Chandler of Pulborough Carringdale with 15lb 12oz, Mark Lindsey (Weybridge Guns and Tackle) 14lb 12oz and Geoff Vallance of Crawley with 14lb 10oz.

When 28 fished the Andrew Lane Memorial Open match in aid of the Macmillan Unit at Midhurst the top four bags (all of carp) were Matthew Prime 63lb 1oz, Ray Heagarty 50lb 3oz, Paul Williams 46lb 15oz and Dave Woodward 43lb 3oz.

This match was at River Park which was also used for a Three Counties League (Division C) match in which the top three bags were Ken Holcombe (Bognor) 44lb 8oz, Don McCavish (Bognor) 41lb 6oz and Dave Woodward (Fernhurst) 39lb 5oz. Stedham had the four section winners in George Glazier 21lb 11.5oz, John Anscombe 19lb 9oz, Lee Cooper 26lb 15oz and Mick Weeks 37lb 1oz.

A Fernhurst sweepstake in midweek at Lythe Hill pond was won by Dave Woodward with 17lb 4oz from Mike Smith 12lb 4oz and Ernie Remnant 12lb 1oz.

Littlewood Farm was the venue for a Central Southern Junior League match involving three clubs and the top three individuals were Martin Clarke (Rother) 10lb 12oz, Gary Thurgood (Fernhurst) 4lb 0.5oz and Graham Cornwell (Grayshott) 4lb.

The 13 anglers from Copthorne landed 103lb compared to the 20lb the six from visiting club Dorking amassed at Rowfant Mill. Copthorne's catch was dominated by Paul Brinkhurst who had a carp of 7lb plus bream and tench on pole and corn or pellet for a total of 40lb 7oz. Steve Green had 14lb 8oz.

Copthorne's midweek match at Little Rowfant was won by Dave Whitehouse with 12lb 3oz with Don Vallance second on 10lb 2oz.

When 60 members of Newhaven went out for the Wilson Cup heaviest mixed catch boat competition some were already complaining it was too hot but 26 of them were happy as they weighed in 396lb 11oz with cod (best 15lb 4oz) the dominant specie but also small bass and black bream, dabs, silver eels, lesser spotted dogfish, pollack, pouting and smoothound. Mackerel were plentiful.

Peter Simmons won the trophy with 57lb 13oz and the other leading weights were John A Boys 43lb 15oz, G. Martin 42lb 7oz, John F Boys 41lb 12oz, G. Chatfield 26lb 9oz, J. Magness 18lb 11oz, D. Hope 15lb 4oz, D. Digweed 14lb 15oz, B. Puttock 14lb 2oz, G. Hutchinson 13lb 11oz.

The best fish was Joe Morgan's 1lb 13oz lesser spotted dogfish. Tomorrow (Sunday) members will be competing for the New Royal Oak Trophy which is for the heaviest bag of dabs.

Newhaven Shore Club had 23 book-in with the winner Rose Browning taking 1.23k of flounders (best .37k) and eels from the River Ouse.

Laurence Deakin had .42k of pout from the west arm, Mike Smith .36k of pout from Seaford beach and Tim Roser .28k of bootlace eels from the river.
