I was astounded to read (Argus, July 6) that Brighton and Hove city councillors have claimed a 40 per cent increase in allowances and expenses for 2000-2001.
I would like to know what they do to deserve this huge increase apart from arguing among themselves and making expensive blunders such as resurfacing George Street twice in a short time.
They are obviously taking a lead from our MPs. The gravy train is running at full speed.
Now we are a city, I suppose there will be more handouts and junketing with no restrictions. Bring back independent Portslade.
