Bringing together two popular TV cults, The Simpsons and wrestling, you might expect this game to have received a bigger marketing launch.

Its appeal is to a younger audience than those hooked on WWF SmackDown or ECW Hardcore Revolution, so it is the yellow Springfield favourites who will draw in the buyers for Simpsons' Wrestling for the PlayStation.

Nineteen of the Simpsons' characters can be unlocked and pitted against one another. They include the entire Simpson family, Moe, Barney, Apu, Krusty the Clown and the ever-appealing Scottish grounds-keeper, Willie.

Action is limited to an over-sized ring and one-on-one grappling with fewer moves than the established wrest-ling game packages. Ringside announcing is not by good old Jim Ross, but by Kent Brockman. Playing is fun, rather than fury. Controls are easy to master and the matches can be quite hilarious.

The game has all the colour from the world-wide TV show and the well-known voices of the larger-than-life US family. I can imagine their UK counterparts wrestling over who gets to control Marge (with Maggie) or Bart, Homer or Lisa.

Potentially a Play-Station classic if it was developed further, Simpsons' Wrestling - currently for up to two players - will gain a steady fan club. They will smell what Homer is cooking! Even if they later graduate to Stone Cold, the Undertaker or Goldberg.
