Paul Rogers has issued a plea for manager Micky Adams to stay with the Seagulls.

The captain fears the side's title-winning squad would break up if Adams goes.

Adams skipped Saturday's 1-0 defeat in Southampton's farewell to The Dell.

He was in Cardiff instead to watch Blackpool join Albion in the Second Division next season by beating Leyton Orient 4-2 in the play-off final.

Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe again refused to rule Adams out of the running for the manager's job at his old club.

Lowe told the Argus: "I am not going to talk about the managerial situation.

"Everybody knows that is something we are working on at the moment and it's not appropriate to say anything about anybody.

"We have always said there are many options open to us and nobody is counted in or out. I am not going to comment specifically about any person or situation."

Rogers, Adams' first signing for Albion two summers ago, said: "It's very important he stays. He is the guy who brought all of the players in.

"He cleared the decks when he came and all the players who played a part this season are here because of him.

"Obviously we want him to stay and the same goes for Bobby (Zamora).

"We want them to stay from a selfish point of view, but if they get offers it is something they would have to consider when the time comes.

"If a manager does go then the same thing happens, the next one clears the decks and brings his own players in.

"But none of the lads at the moment are thinking about him going. He has given us our pre-season itineraries and we are just looking forward to a nice break.

"It's great to get some silverware after so many years and the players are looking forward to the Second Division. With a few new additions I think we will do okay."

Adams is now on holiday, so further talks about his revised contract offer are on hold.
