Peacehaven manager Peter Edwards is hoping he can bring back the glory years at Piddinghoe Avenue.

Edwards knows all about winning silverware as he was with Alan Pook in the early Nineties during a successful period and then took the reins himself to carve his own place in County League history with Division One titles in 1994-95 and 1995-96 and a clutch of other cups and trophies.

Last Saturday Edwards again added to the Peacehaven trophy cabinet as his side beat Oving 2-0 to win the Division Two League Cup. That success came just seven days after Peacehaven clinched promotion and the runners-up spot.

However, Edwards is sensible and experienced enough not to predict his side will take Division One by storm next season.

Asked if Peacehaven could become a force again, Edwards said: "I hope so. You never know but I really hope so and that is what we are aiming for.

"I don't know if we will ever reach the heights which we reached previously. That was magnificent and done with a magnificent team.

"This at the moment is a good team and to get to be magnificent takes a lot of hard work but we will see what they can do."

Edwards added: "I helped manage under two magnificent teams at Peacehaven to this level of football. This one is a good team and hopefully we will make it better every year."

One player Peacehaven will be without is captain Ricky Mitchell, who was a key figure within the sides Edwards steered to success and has the championship winning medals and cup winners' trophies to prove it.

The cup win marked Mitchell's retirement from football but he expects the side with which he has enjoyed so much success to build on this season's good work.

Mitchell said: "He will obviously want to add a few more players all over. Most of the players should stay I would have thought."

Edwards, himself, knows he has a good number of youngsters coming through. He said: "Hopefully I won't lose a player, and hopefully we will add and some of the younger players who played against Worthing United the other night will come in.

"As anyone who was there would see that we have a lot of young players to come through."

The younger players have been progressing this season in the reserves, where Peter's younger brother Jason, along with Fraser Ireland, have guided the team to promotion and the East Section title.

Jason said: "We missed promotion by one place last season, and got promoted this year. We want to get the club back up where it should be."
