Mark Stevens bowled a marathon spell for Sunnyside and Felbridge against Forest Row on Sunday - and it only lasted one over.

Trundling in for the final over before tea, Stevens proceeded to bowl a 16-ball, 27-run over which helped the visitors' tally to a more than useful 167-8. The sequence was a no-ball, two wides, a long hop which was pulled for four, then four wides, two dot balls, a four, three more wides, a six and a single.

There was a good cricketing name among the runs for Newhaven last weekend. Rohan Pooley, who scored 88 as his side drew with Glynde II, was named after the famous West Indian batsman Rohan Kanhai.

The narrowest victory last weekend came in the Mid Sussex League where Clayton beat Cuckfield III by a single run. Having bowled Clayton out for 100, Cuckfield appeared to be coasting at 30-0 before Alan Carden ripped into them, taking 8-35 as they were dismissed for 99.

Ansty Cricket Club have a special day coming up. On Sunday June 24 they will take on an Old Sussex XI at Deaks Lane. The Sussex team will be chosen from a squad including Neil Lenham, Tony Dodemaide, Keith Greenfield, Peter Graves, Alan Green, Jamie Hall, John Snow, Adrian Jones, Ian Waring, John Barclay, Tony Pigott and David Smith.

Anyone who cast doubts over the bowling of Steve Barns could be wide of the mark. The Mayfield 2nd XI captain claimed figures of 5-25 off 4.2 overs against Ridgewood in the Cuckmere Valley League. Amazingly, 15 of the 25 runs he conceded were wides.

Do beer matches still take place? At a match in Kent two weeks ago, Bexley's visitors were dismissed for a tally less than 50. The home side chalked off the runs in double-quick time, tea was taken and the ground was empty by 3.30.

Batting is easy when your name is Neil Green and you are facing St Andrews III. That is the way it seems after Green smashed an unbeaten 180 as Hassocks III crushed St Andrews in the Mid Sussex League's Sally Miller Trophy last weekend. Green hammered six sixes and 18 fours, sharing in a second wicket stand of 230 with Mick Marve (85) and his mammoth effort was the third highest score in the history of the league.

Bob Geldof may not like Mondays but Alex Wilson certainly likes Sundays. The St John's bowler claimed a seven wicket haul for the second successive week as his side beat Crowborough last weekend.

Broadwater's Alex Clapp will be able to boast a pretty good average soon. Clapp, the brother of Sussex batsman Dominic, completed his first century in senior cricket against Rustington last weekend and has now scored 190 runs in his first three innings this season without being out yet.

Owen Hatter had a testimonial match last weekend to celebrate his 45 years of cricket with Udimore but it did not all go according to plan. To the dismay of most people at the ground, Hatter was dismissed first ball in Udimore's reply to The Legion's 187-5.

Can anyone identify the following cricket team: Griff, Shops, Young Guy, Candyfloss, Cookie Monster, Nelly Swingmeister, Blackie, Ridley/Cymbals/Caveman, Gaz and Salty? Of course, it is the Lancing Manor Sunday XI who visited Arundel last weekend. Thanks to Owen Voice for a most entertaining match report.
