We read with mild pleasure that Adam Trimingham had a most frustrating weekend travelling by train to Kent (Argus, May 17), where he and 11 friends were meeting for a weekend of cycling.
On and on he droned about the booking office queue, the elderly train, the ancient diesel, the irritating wait at Ore so another train could pass, the engineering work on the line, the lack of crossovers and, to cap it all - because of engineering work on the line - the replacement bus not taking bikes, which involved a complicated journey changing at Tonbridge, Redhill and Gatwick.
What a pleasure it was to contemplate Trimingham on the return leg, lugging his bike on a complicated and time-consuming route back to Brighton.
Serves him right - clogging up our trains with his silly bike when he obviously should have cycled up to Kent and back. Isn't that just what bikes are for?
