Sussex maintained their position in the National Under-13s Championships.

The boys lost 4-2 against Kent and Cheshire but won their Division Two rele-gation dogfight 5-1 against North of Scotland at Aldershot.

Khalil Kasparis (Worthing) scored an impressive 6-4, 6-1 victory over national No.4 Sean Thornley from Kent, but Sussex's own Alan Wright, ranked No.1, suffered a defeat.

Adam Hassan (Pole-gate), overcame the higher-rated Matt Bright 6-3, 6-1.

Team manager Tony Clark said: "The two games we lost could have gone either way. There was a lot of pressure on Alan but he played well against Cheshire and the North of Scotland.

"Khalil's victory was an exceptional per-formance. Everyone played well against the North of Scotland."

The county girls missed promotion from division two at Nottingham.

They beat Notting-hamshire 6-0 and Northumberland 5-1, before losing 5-1 to Hertfordshire.
