Hastings Olympian Sean Baldock bids for a hat-trick of titles at this weekend's Sussex Track and Field Championships at Crawley.

Baldock was injured when chasing Games champion Michael Johnson in his heat of the 400m at Sydney, and has not raced since.

But he is back tomorrow in the 100m, 200m and 400m, but will have his work cut out to complete a treble.

He is clearly in a class of his own in the 400m, but could lose out to Worthing's Alistair Gordon in the shorter sprints.

Tim Bayley (from Lewes Tertiary), who as an under-20 beat all the seniors in the 800m last year, is stepping down in distance and tackling the 200m and 400m.

Bayley clocked a personal best of 48.77sec for Belgrave in their British League Division one match last weekend.

South of England 1,500m champion Pat Davoren (Phoenix), who missed last year's championships, is entered for the 800m and 1,500m and could complete the double.

In his absence, the 800m could be a cracking race.

Mark Vidler (Hastings) and Martin Airey (Blackheath) will be eager to deprive title-holder Russell Pittam (Phoenix) of his crown.

Gary Power, from Horsham, will bid for his eighth successive title in the discus.

In the women's events, Claire Milborrow (Horsham) and Nicky Gilding (Brighton and Hove) promise to be the outstanding athletes.

Their clashes in the 100m and the long jump should produce sparks.

The Horsham girl will have the edge in the 100m hurdles, while Nicky will be in her element in the triple jump.

Debbie Woolgar (Worthing) has entered three throwing events and is expected to be among the gold medals in the shot putt and discus, but could struggle to finish first in the javelin.

She has been an ever-present at the championships since 1979 and has amassed more than 80 titles.
