Petworth and Newick were visited by English Bowling Association teams led by president Dennis Grint of Norfolk but neither club could celebrate with a win.

At Petworth it was to mark the club's 75th anniversay. The club moved to its present site in Sheepdown Drive in 1927 and now prides itself with an attractive green maintained by Cecil Wadey and a neat clubhouse where wives of members put on the best food for miles around. The EBA team members were treated to a buffet lunch and a meal after the match which they won 131-108.

Petworth's top rink were Peter King. Phil Herrington, Mick Booth and Darren Miles who won 22-16 over Dennis Taylor. Marc Lancaster of short mat winter fame won 24-20 over Roy Lewing and by scoring one shot on the last end Dave Herbert finished 20-20 with Wayne Manley.

Michael Bryder dropped 1,3,3 over the last three ends to lose 22-19 to Graham Mould and after Alan Catterson had trailed the jack on the last end to set up a three shot score, opposing skip Don Knight drew second bowl so Catterson was beaten 19-18.

The real debacle was on Mick Monk's rink.

The next day the EBA were at Newick where the East Sussex village club began their 90th anniversary celebrations. After a buffet at the greenside clubhouse the Newick team led by club captain Den Coldman put out six rinks against their illustrious opponents.

The EBA won the match 114-87 with Geoff Sweet winning 24-8 over club president Ross Gliddon. Alan Chase beat Howard Ainsley 24-11; John Ades beat Jim Robb 21-15.
