A man has been found guilty of possessing a pistol in a series of armed raids on Worthing nursing homes.

Daniel Lewis, 21, of Pennyfields, Feltham, Bognor Regis, has already been found guilty of robbery, attempted robbery and stealing a handbag by a jury at Wood Green Crown Court, London.

Yesterday he was found guilty of robbery and possessing an imitation firearm.

Lewis, formerly of Meadow Close, Durrington, Worthing, was originally found guilty of robbing cashier Elliott Taylor at Alldays late night store in Goring; attempted robbery at the Madeira Nursing Home, Worthing; and stealing a handbag and contents at the same home.

Yesterday he was found guilty of possession an imitation firearm at Alldays, robbery and possessing the .177 calibre pistol at the Baytree Nursing Home, Worthing, and possessing the pistol at the Madeira Home.

The jury has yet to decide whether Daniel's stepfather Kevin Isted, 43 of 1 Kingsley Close, East Worthing - who has admitted committing acts tending to pervert the course of justice - is guilty of the Alldays robbery.

And the jury's deliberations continued today about Lewis' wife Emma, 20, who is accused of robbing Julie Harding of £5,697.62 and possessing the pistol at the Baytree Nursing Home in Worthing on April 15 last year.

She is also accused of attempted robbery at the Madeira Home, possessing the imitation firearm and stealing the handbag on the same occasion.

The jury heard 16-year-old Elliott Taylor was held up at Alldays on April 14 last year before nursing staff at the Baytree home were terrorised in a robbery hours later.

On May 3 robbers were thwarted at the Madeira Nursing Home because there was no money and a staff member's handbag was surreptitiously taken from the premises.

Lewis is due to be sentenced on June 7. The hearing continues.
