In this day and age, whenever we read our papers, turn on our televisions or listen to our radios, we are forever bombarded with the terrible suffering of people and animals caused by earthquakes, floods, terrorist activities, disease and so on. These stories break our hearts.
Saturday's Argus (March 24) contained one feature that shone like a beacon in the darkness - the re-uniting of friends Margit Latter and Helga Ilm after 50 years.
The love and happiness generated by this meeting between Margit and Helga and her family was like a tonic in our troubled times, when these two qualities seem sadly lacking from so many people's lives.
How wonderful if there were to be an epidemic combining these two ingredients. Thank you, Margit and Helga, for a lovely story.
