R W Carden has, I'm afraid, got his facts a little confused regarding the history of the Imperial Theatre, later called the Essoldo (Opinion, March 21).

He states it hadn't had live entertainment for more than 60 years. Since its first night was in April 1940, it must have had a very short period to entertain its audiences.

In fact, it hosted a choice of shows for many years, including variety, ballet and even rock 'n' roll.

Furthermore, what became of the commemorative plaque on the wall near the main entrance, unveiled at its opening?

Perhaps it has gone to join the Palace Pier Theatre's remains, taken away for safe storage after it was rammed by a barge in 1973. We live in hope.
