A teenager is today in a critical but stable condition after suffering serious head injuries in a road accident.
The 17-year-old was crossing the A286 at Birdham near Chichester when he was hit by a silver Peugeot van heading north yesterday morning.
The man, from Winchester, was working in the area when the accident happened.
He had been buying supplies in Birdham Stores with two work colleagues and was crossing the road to return to his vehicle.
As two of the men walked back to their blue Nissan pick-up truck, the teenager was in collision with the van.
He was transferred to King's College Hospital in London yesterday.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the accident to contact Sergeant Jim Bartlett or PC James Appi of Chichester Traffic Division on 0845 60 70 999.
