The first day of spring brought heavy snow to Sussex - and a renewed threat of flooding.
The Environment Agency is warning of more bad weather to come in the next 48 hours.
The agency said groundwater levels were extremely high and many fields still sodden following the wettest winter for more than 300 years.
Relatively small amounts of rain would be enough to cause flooding across the region. Some areas could receive up to 40mm of rain in the next 48 hours.
The Met Office faxed severe weather warnings to councils across Sussex yesterday lunchtime, warning of snow and belts of heavy rain.
Councils put their gritters on alert, although the morning's snow was expected to give way to rain. Three gritters were out in hilly areas at lunchtime.
There were no reports of serious problems caused by this morning's weather.
