An Anglo-French clubbing experience linking venues live on the internet will take place in Brighton this Saturday.

Clubbers heading to the Paradox nightspot will share the experience with party-goers at Manouchka, a venue in the French town of Vesoul. Giant video screens at each venue will broadcast camera footage of the scenes from the other country in real time.

James Morris, of One Over Z (OOZ), has been managing the Brighton set-up for the clubnight dubbed the Internet Fiesta.

He said: "More than 3,000 people will effectively be sharing the dance floor because the music and the experience will be delivered at the same time to both clubs.

"It's the first time anywhere in the UK has taken part in an event like this and we think it's going to be huge."

OOZ is a French company with its UK operations based in Brighton. The company specialises in delivering visuals for live events.

Mr Morris said: "The footage from the clubs will be interspersed with 3D animation and video clips playing with the beat of the music. It's visually stunning and we have used it to great effect at live events such as Fat Boy Slim's French tour.

"We will be using high-speed multiple ISDN lines to stream visuals and sound between each venue, utilising OOZ's sophisticated virtual video editing tool Loop and CODEC to synchronise and control the content to a fraction of the beat.

"A crucial aspect of the new technology is being able to minimise time delays in sound and visuals between each location. This time we're using two clubs but there is no reason why you could not do it with far many more and over greater distances. This really is the future of clubbing."

Brighton and Hove Council has provided sponsorship for the Sussex side of the plans as part of its support for new media initiatives in the area. The event is one element of a month-long world-wide celebration of the internet as a communication tool for social inclusion.

Executive councillor for culture Ian Duncan said: "The internet and clubbing are our specialist subjects, so we are proud to host a UK first which combines the two."

In Brighton, DJ Dougie Mack will be playing house and techno with French DJ Jerome sharing the decks from the other side of the English Channel. The event starts at 9pm with the DJ duel from 10.30pm, entry costs £5 before 10.30pm and £7 after.

Virtual clubbers can also watch the Internet Fiesta broadcast live on the web.
