A landmark public school in Brighton is opening up as a venue for business events.

In an enterprising move and in response to requests, historic Brighton College is throwing open the facilities of its campus.

College head Dr Anthony Seldon said: "We are thrilled to be opening our doors for external business which will allow us to share not just the excellent facilities we have here at the college but also the wonderful haven it offers from the hurly-burly of a busy city life."

The college's commercial manager Emma Brown said: "For years people have been asking if the college could be hired for business functions, such as conferences, meeting, training sessions or lunches and dinners.

"It is great to be able to say 'yes' now and businesses will find the campus has so many different options available."

She said the college has its own special ambience with flint-faced buildings and an imposing entrance in Eastern Road. Sir George Gilbert Scott, architect of the Foreign Office in London's Whitehall, designed the college's first buildings.

Inside, there is a range of public rooms with an impressive oak-panelled Great Hall seating up to 300 people and many smaller studios, halls and rooms.
