Albion are on the brink of their first promotion for 13 years.

A place in the Second Division next season is now in sight following Saturday's 2-2 draw at Hartlepool.

Cardiff have moved back above them into second, but the Seagulls have a ten-point cushion over the chasing pack headed by Hartlepool.

Manager Micky Adams said: "The games are running out now and the pressure is all on them. They have got to win games. Draws are no good to them.

"We are in a healthy position. I would rather be in our position than Hartlepool's.

"It's not going to be handed to us on a plate, but the finishing line is staring us in the face."

Albion have a sell-out showdown at Withdean this Saturday against leaders Chesterfield, who are ten points clear.

Adams said: "It's a big game, but I am not as concerned about the teams above us as those below. It has been a big week for us. We made great strides."

Albion led twice at Victoria Park through Richard Carpenter and a penalty by 24-goal Bobby Zamora.

Tony Lormor and Kevin Henderson salvaged a fifth successive draw for Hartlepool, which stretched their unbeaten League run to 18 games.

Danny Cullip, Albion's influential central defender, limped off after half-an-hour with ankle and elbow injuries.

Adams was full of praise for Cullip's teenage deputy Adam Virgo.

Adams said: "He was magnificent again when you consider he is only 18. It was a man's performance. He is one for the future.

"Danny looked like he had been in a war. He twisted his ankle and did something to his elbow, but I am sure he will be back and raring to go sooner rather than later."

Matthew Wicks has resumed training following hamstring trouble, so Adams' plans to add two loan signings to the squad before Thursday's transfer deadline are not expected to include a centre half.
