Lewes beat the weather and moved into second spot in Ryman division three.

Rooks took full advantage while most of their promotion rivals had their matches postponed as heavy rain decimated the non-league football programme throughout Sussex.

Lewes manager Jimmy Quinn said: "I was very happy to get the game played.

"We have now got three more points in the bag while avoiding the extra fixture congestion a postponement would have caused."

Rampant Rooks destroyed their hosts and could have almost doubled their total as the visitors squandered several opportunities, especially in the first half.

The only goal in the opening half came on 11 minutes from Sam Francis fired home an excellent shot on the turn from 30 yards wide on the right.

Lewes got their second three minutes after the break when a weak back pass from Andy Thomas was pounced on by Richard Hudson who drilled a low shot into the net.

Two minutes later they added a third after Francis and Warren Bagnall combined with the latter finishing off the move. Cameron Johnson saw a shot from the corner of the penalty area strike the foot of the post after 70 minutes.

But a minute later he volleyed home a cross from Paul Thomsett from the similar position.

Bagnall grabbed his second goal to complete the scoring three minutes from time. He fed Johnson wide on the right and met the return cross with a downward header which beat Camberley goalkeeper Justin Gray.

In the Rich City League, Southwick joined Hailsham on 48 points at the top of division two despite being held to a 2-2 draw by Bosham.

Jack Dineen gave Wickers a 20th-minute lead but Hugh Howden scrambled home an equaliser for the hosts just after the break. Howden put Bosham ahead on the hour with his second but four minutes later Daren Newman headed home from a free-kick to level.

Bosham player-manager Brian Clarke said: "I was a little bit disappointed with a draw as we had led 2-1 and enjoyed the better of the second half. However, when I consider where they are in the table and who they have playing for them, it is a good result for the lads."

Mile Oak striker Tony Burnett believes his team have halted Shoreham's promotion hopes after a 2-1 derby win.

Burnett, who opened the scoring early on for Oak, said: "I think that is them out of the equation and also the win pretty much guarantees we're not going to get sucked into any relegation scrap."

The marksman calmly slotted home after Jamie Ash had put him in with a brilliant 30-yard crossfield pass. Nicky Martin doubled the lead, but Shoreham pulled one back through Andy Agutter.

Westfield assistant-manager Steve Johnson said his men's relegation fears were eased by the 1-1 draw with Oakwood.

Tony Harris volleyed Westfield ahead from 20 yards with five minutes remaining, but his goal was cancelled out three minutes later by Zak Newman.

Johnson said: "We're gutted not to have won, but a point puts a bit more distance between ourselves and the relegation pack."
