A man has been shot in the stomach with what is thought to have been a pellet gun in a street robbery.

It happened near the Jenny Lind pub in High Street, Hastings Old Town, at 9.30am on Friday.

The robber grabbed a large quantity of cash from the injured man before making his escape.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene and the victim was taken by ambulance to the Conquest Hospital.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Ambulance Service said he was fully conscious when he was taken to hospital and his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

It is thought the weapon used may have been a pellet gun.

Police are trying to trace the gunman, who was 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, of mixed race and stockily built.
