Strange how the hunting fraternity would have us believe a total ban on hunting would be impossible to enforce but that its "middle way" option, under which the worst excesses of the "sport" would be outlawed, could be adequately implemented by a regulatory body.

The direct opposite is the case.

The "middle way" option would require the deployment of hundreds of inspectors or police to ensure every hunt meet complies with all the regulations governing hunt activities, whereas a total ban would be extremely simple to enforce.

By their very nature, hunt meets cannot be held surreptitiously and there will always be people who will inform on any planned illegal activity.

Nor would it mean thousands of police scouring the countryside to seek illegal hunts - a single helicopter is all that would be required to sweep a substantial part of the countryside and direct ground forces accordingly.
