Matt Russell shot down his old mates as Bognor swept into the Senior Cup final last night.

The former YMCA hitman fired home a classic right-foot volley on 35 minutes to ease Rocks' nerves after an unimpressive opening.

He later capped an impressive individual performance with a cool far post finish from Guy Rutherford's cross to put his side 4-0 up after 48 minutes.

Russell has scored 24 times this season, but was pipped for goal of the night by Jamie Howell, who flighted a superb chip through the rain and inside the top corner to make it 2-0.

Michael Birmingham added the third in a muddy close range scramble after Russell had again caused problems.

Lewes boss Jimmy Quinn, whose side will meet Bognor in the final after their win over Crawley last night, had left Culver Road by the time Mark Francis fired a well-taken 80th minute consolation for the County League outfit.

But Rocks, who made impressively light work of a potentially tough test, quickly replied with substitute Nicky Wyatt rounding the goalkeeper for their fifth.

Phil Churchill salvaged some YM pride in the dying seconds after Craig Stoner had fumbled a tame shot.

Bognor boss Jack Pearce said: "It was a great first goal and it settled us.

"Matt could be a helluva footballer but it depends how hard he wants to work.

"He should set his sights a lot higher than he does at the moment."
