Peter Tadros (Hastings) scored a convincing win in the Sussex CA's 25-mile time trial at Horsham.

The long climb up Tollgate Hill slowed the riders, but Tadros (VC Bayeux) still averaged over 27mpg to record 54min.45sec.

Tadros said: "I didn't mind the hills at all but there were too many roundabouts for my liking as they interrupted my rhythm. It was my first race of the season so I was more than pleased with my performance."

Former mountain biker James Dear (Eastbourne Rovers) finished second (57min.26sec) and Stewart Jardine (Twickenham) third (57min.40sec). Richard Payne (34th Nomads) was fourth (58min.28sec), Martin Markowski (Bayeux) fifth (58min.46sec) and Richard Sutton (VC Etoile) sixth (58min.50sec).

Steve Holland was seventh fastest in 58min.56sec to clinch the team title for VC Bayeux.

The Sussex CA's event at Ashurst the previous day was reduced by a mile due to roadworks. Steve Dennis (East Grinstead) covered the 14,-mile circuit in 34min.13sec to beat Hampshire star Chris Birch (St Raphael) by 21sec. Mark Jones (GS Stella) was third (34min.37sec) and Tristan Court (Brighton Mitre) fourth (35min.21sec). Jones led Stella to their sixth team win of the season, with Steve Woodbridge (38min.38sec) and Phil Wise (39min.23sec).

Marina Bloom (Crawley Wheelers) recorded 1hr.15min.10sec to win the Antelope RT 25-mile women's event in Berkshire.

Keith Reed makes his debut for Brighton Mitre in this weekend's Southern Counties ten and 25-mile events in Surrey. The former London ace is joined by Mark Jones, John Limpus, Richard Sutton and Steve Dennis.

The Horsham Riders mountain bike races at Mannings Heath on Sunday have been cancelled due to the foot and mouth problem.
